Andrew Bailey played catch from 60 feet Wednesday for the first time since suffering a strained intercostal muscle in late July.
Oakland manager Bob Geren wouldn't estimate when Bailey might throw off a mound in a chat with reporters after the workout. The closer is eligible to return from the disabled list on August 6, but it sure sounds like he won't be back until the middle of August. Craig Breslow and Michael Wuertz are likely to collect some saves while he is out.
